Yeah too much zoom. I ended up keeping a D90 backup body with a 50mm prime when I was using the D300. Ended up selling both bodies and getting a D700, now the 70-200 works great as a walk-around lens.
Nice! A full-frame body makes a 70-200 so much more usable. I bought the Nikon equivalent and found it nearly unusable with a crop sensor. Came close to getting rid of the lens, good thing a buddy talked me into keeping it and changing my camera body instead.
