I remember that too. Then what happened was the first long trailer came out and everyone flipped out when they saw him say “Why so serious?!” That really changed expectations for most people, and then when Ledger died a short time later, the excitement for seeing him play the role became overwhelming.

In some ways, it is a shame that Nicholson’s version is a bit overshadowed by Ledger’s nowadays. Sure, it was a bit more campy in hindsight, but his acting ability still delivered and came across at times as menacing in its own way.

Sort of like when I was 6 years old and absolutely shocked that George Washington had died almost 200 years ago. Not sure when my concept of time began to morph into its current state, honestly!

The animated version seems like something a lot of the fanboys and general public can agree on, for sure.

My best friend and I have overanalyzed the 1994 Disney movie Heavyweights to a larger extent than ever needed as well. It’s kind of fun doing that sort of thing, actually!

It’s really bad when I can’t remember which one of the Amy Fisher movies I saw on TV (and I could have seen at least two of the three as well, for all I know).

I wonder if the grisly nature of it, along with the sexuality situations, sort of made it a bit more taboo for filmmakers to consider in the early to mid 90's? They definitely tackled it later on in some form though, like you said, including another movie with Jeremy Renner in 2002.

I notice that the people who came on board or of age during the prequel era tend to view them a bit more favorably. Makes sense, I guess, as it does with most other things out there.

Well, that said, it is nice to see him smiling and standing in at least some sort of fashion under what could have been much, much worse consequences. Time will tell if the rest of the stuff falls together for him.

Not my own experience and I wasn’t actually there, but here’s an instance of where a literal translation by one parent went wrong somehow... one of my best friends growing up was lent the movie “Freddy Got Fingered” by another one of our other friends. Oddly enough, I watched 90210 and Melrose Place freely with my sister and mother, among others. Different strokes, huh?

Holy crap, I was allowed to watch that one! Interesting.

Trips to my sister’s apartment allowed me and my siblings the chance to watch Beavis and Butthead. Surprisingly, my older brother took the liberty of turning the channel once or twice when he thought it was a bit too extreme for me. But we still ended up watching 95% of whatever episodes they aired while we were there.
