Pop Goes the World is all sorts of great. Never fails to put me in a good moon. Agreed on The Sun Always Shines on TV as well.

There should really be a difference between “one hit” artists and “one hit wonders” in the classic sense of the term, to accommodate things like that.

Now playing

There’s a few good ones off there. This Will Be My year is awesome too.

Fire Escape got some decent radio airplay before Out of My Head as well. I also remember You’re an Ocean appearing there a bit in 2000 too.

Huh... I’d think Big Time and Sledgehammer all charted well, along with In Your Eyes of course.

Pop Goes the World was somewhat a hit in the US, and even Moonbeam gets airplay every so often. Will need to check this one out too!

Yeah, some of the stuff they’ve released on their later albums were pretty darn good. I’d even argue that Breaking Down the Horse had more than two real hits, and perhaps Sleepwalker could be considered one in some circles.

Thank you! I’ll note that when trying to post stuff in the future...

Saw them open for Arcade Fire a few months ago. A bit of a weird set since they were on a cluttered stage and all, but they were fun.

Now those are two genuine one-hit wonders if I can’t even think of other songs by them! Even for someone like Chumbawamba, I know the second single Amnesia (which got decent radio airplay in the US and was used in an NFL commercial). Or their 2000 single She’s Got All the Friends, which wasn’t really played outside of

The other members were John Taylor and Andy Taylor, bassist and guitarist for Duran Duran, and Tony Thompson, drummer for Chic. I believe Chic’s bassist Bernard Edwards also produced the album and played on a track or two.

I’ll have to look into that album more then! Oddly enough, I was thinking about that same thing when I downloaded a club mix of Wrong Club a week or two ago as well, so maybe it’s close to high time.

They were actually the first band I ever went out of my way to see live! I finally caught them for a second time last year and showed Matthew Caws my ticket stub from that first show, telling him that he started me on the path to 100+ shows for other acts after that. He got a good kick out of it before signing

On a less important note, anyone know how to embed YouTube videos on here? I’ve tried copying links and the embed codes from YouTube, but they never seem to post (unless Ad Blocker is blocking mine and not the others or something).

Yeah, it was a side project of Duran Duran in the mid-80's with a pre-solo fame Robert Palmer singing. I’d probably think it’s more well-known in the U.S. than the original T. Rex version too! A bit slick on the production, but it’s still a good tune either way.

I think both Epic and Midlife Crisis would qualify as hits in the U.S., personally.

For Fountains of Wayne, Somebody to Love was basically called “Stacy’s Mom redux” by most who were familiar with the band, but I enjoyed that number quite a bit.

Brand New Lover is pretty well-known, I think. It didn’t have the public response of You Spin Me Round over the years, sure, but I think most people who are old enough would know it if they heard it.

Yeah, Who Can It Be Now is known to a good portion of people in the U.S., I’d think. Stuff like Overkill is known to a much lesser extent, so I’d say they had at least two major hits.
