It’s a good example of why it’s necessary to continuously reevaluate the original conceit to ensure it still makes sense within the context of what the show has become -- no matter how much sense it made or how clever it seemed in the beginning. See also: HIMYM.

The April plot device is obviously terrible, but hiding important information isn’t exactly out of character for Luke — there’s the Twickham house purchase and the whole dark day thing...and didn’t he hide being married?

Ah if Costas was involved, I’m not surprised...

Wait, who hated on Michelle Kwan? I thought she was universally beloved...

I just watched one and it’s just a tour doc — a genre of video that predates YouTube? I don’t really get why anyone would have a problem with this, in light of the YT content that’s been in the spotlight recently...

I just got caught up on this season and it’s basically just a bad remake of MTV’s Scream...

Yes and on top of all this, the depiction of Rory in this episode has always baffled me. Cooking? Going to the gym? Feeling super at home in this house — how much time is she spending there? Anyway, we’re getting way ahead of ourselves...

A Vineyard Valentine is both a terrible episode and is super relatable to me based on a past experience so I get to hate it on both fronts!

I’d have to re-read it to see how knowing the ending affects the story retroactively, but my initial feeling was that it makes it feel more realistic because there’s no way that dude is letting her escape this unscathed.
