And yet, we’re the only country that regularly has mass shootings. Why aren’t criminals in countries with relatively tight restrictions on firearm ownership experiencing what we’re dealing with?

That’s a supremely defeatist attitude and apathy like that is one more reason why things don’t change. If the first solution doesn’t work, you learn from it and move on. You don’t just cede defeat.
