I don’t disagree. There are lots of jobs that pay in the $10-$15/hr range, some of which have better workplace environments than others. McDonald’s has some sweet benefits if you get high enough up. I know a woman that is a manager of multiple locations. Her salary is lower than mine (engineer), but her benefits

Yeah that’s what I use. I check the balance every now and then, but it’s hands-off so I never have to do anything.

Basically yeah haha. Just say the car is broken so you got it cheap. They don’t have any way to prove you’re lying. It’s a weird system. I think sales tax on a car that someone already paid sales tax on is BS, though. I would rather have a gas tax that actually funds the roads I’m using.

Yeah the teacher strikes happening recently are pretty eye opening. The government employee pension in Kentucky is ridiculously underfunded mostly due to the money being handed over to hedge fund managers who took a big chunk and got crappy returns while the S&P500 was getting 20% returns. The idea of retirement for

I’m not old enough to know much about this, but I can’t believe people were fine with companies moving from company-funded pensions to employee-funded 401k’s. I think only 3% of companies still pay a pension. I’ve worked at two of them, but even then you have to have a 401k because you don’t know if that pension will

4th boat? Peasants. Everyone knows you need a private naval fleet.

In Indiana they would charge tax based on what the seller puts as the sale price on the title.

You beat me to it. Consumer goods are cheap because we import them from Asia/Mexico. If those TVs and microwaves were built here they would be much more expensive and people would decide they don’t actually need them. Housing and healthcare are crazy expensive these days, especially if you actually have to go the

I was thinking more along the lines of EMTs/nurses. Jobs that can’t go to Mexico, but you always hear people saying those jobs don’t make as much as fast food workers therefore fast food workers can’t be paid more. But yes, factory jobs would continue to go to Mexico. And fast food workers will get replaced by robots

I think buying houses is fine. It keeps you from being susceptible to increases in rent or being forced to move when your landlord decides to sell the place. You are basically locking in the cost of housing for as long as you live there (plus taxes and maintenance). The problem is that all new houses being built

Wages have been stagnant since the 70's which should make everyone angry. I feel like this is the part people miss when complaining about fast food workers asking for higher minimum wage. The point isn’t for them to be paid the same as more skilled workers, the point is for the baseline to be raised so everyone makes

Well that would have been good to know haha. Thanks for the tip. I’ve heard of the old belt trick, but I only have vehicles with timing chains so I don’t have any timing belts laying around. I tried it with a serpentine belt with no luck. I think I’ll invest in the crank shaft socket next time I need to take it off.

Sounds like they are saying they are having a hard time finding more fuel economy. They found 3%, but the only way to get it is for the consumer to pay more at the pump. Win-win for the manufacturer since they don’t have to eat the cost.

This. I didn’t have an impact strong enough to get the crankshaft bolt off my 4Runner while trying to replace the headgaskets. Would have saved me a ton of time finding a work-around if I just had the proper impact.

Agreed, beer is best enjoyed after the job is done. I do listen to music though. And usually at least one of my neighbors comes by to see what I’m breaking this time haha.

Drive through Death Valley in the summer. Every other car is a rental Mustang.

I know nothing about Range Rovers, but the one in front looks like the 4WD selector.

My mom always said the same thing. I still do it too.

I forgot a large tube of toothpaste (6oz) and a bottle of hand lotion (same size, but less dense so it was 3 oz) in my carry on one time. Keep in mind those are not liquid ounces listed on the tubes, but the weight in ounces. Both tubes were the same size. I got stopped because I also had a mostly empty large plastic
