A couple other similarities. Every time the protagonist dies in the simulation, it's reset and he starts again until he reaches his goal. At the end he's able to live out his "life" in the ideal version of the simulation/alternate reality.

I just watched this movie today. For a moment, when we first find out that the capsule Stevens is in is not real, I thought he was going to turn out to be an AI like in A Mind Forever Voyaging.

I really liked this episode. However the ending really bothered me. Why couldn't Ginn touch Eli?? She's a projection in his head! If she's able to trick his brain to perceive sight and sound, then why not all the senses, including touch!

I was about to post the same thing. That tune was a MAJOR hit at the time. This Apple thing is clearly just a reworking of that tune. Something that was quite common in the '80s. It probably didn't seem all that cheesy then.
