Make sure his tea is barely lukewarm by the time it gets to him. And pointedly refuse to offer him a biscuit with it.

Oh, and probably worth mentioning that the source material is a book series by Bernard Cromwell, who also wrote an at least passingly historically accurate ‘Arthur’ trilogy, which I would happily pay to see done as a decent screen adaption.

There is a BBC series ‘The Last Kingdom’ (it’s just finished it’s second series) which covers this period. Now, it may not be exactly what you’re after, given that it’s main character is a Saxon warrior, brought up as a Dane, and reluctantly presed into Alfred’s serivce, with Alfred portrayed as a humourless,

I was mildly excited about this, until I saw the trailer.

Just out of tangential interest, does anyone know how the heck has a barely second-rate and mildly tainted UK ex-politician managed to weasel her way into a commentary position on this mess?

Logging back in for the first time in months to respond to this. Given the somewhat...heated...nature of your original post, I doubt it’ll do much good in changing your mind, but it might be of interest to others who have an interest in the internal politics of a small island off the coast of Europe that is rapidly

Since this has come up, I just wanted to say that I do a lot of self-defence stuff/martial arts type stuff, with a focus on ‘keeping yourself safe’, and one thing I’ve learned is that if something feels off, it almost certainly is, and there’s probably a good reason for it, even if it isn’t immediately obvious.

So I wanted to join in the fun this year, and finally remembered one I can tell, even though it’s slightly anticlimactic.
