I have MS and just finished a book by an M.D. with MS that features lots of research that dairy and gluten proteins get past the blood-brain barrier and confuse the immune system, hence the rise in autoimmune disorders with the rise in dairy and (modern) wheat consumption. It's something to think about. If you're

Well said. (Reputable) purebred or rescue, what matters most is that a dog finds the right home.

Have you guys tried a breed-specific rescue, vs. the general rescues who might have the breed or mix that you're looking for on Petfinder? I've had more success establishing a relationship with a particular breed rescue group's area contact, so they can get to know you and your family. I'd also suggest foster-to-adopt

What was healing for me was rescuing my current dog and finding out he wasn't the same and didn't remind me of my late dogs! That idea sounds good at first but is actually quite painful to live with on a daily basis (which is why I didn't adopt a dog of the same breed, much as I might want to).

Aw, I had to put my two elderly beardies down a year ago this month. How many did you have? Mine lived to the ripe ages of nearly 14 and 15. Got them from reputable breeders who screened and cleared them of health problems and made sure every puppy was spoken for and went to a home "deserving of the beardie

I totally agree — and despite following this blog for at least 5 years, I rarely comment anymore. Stars and popular girls and bluestockings: it was high school but it used to be a college-prep magnet! Not so much now.

Me too! I mean, c'mon.

Sensible, good humored, generous: I hope you're a parent, because you can show us all how it's done!

The category craziness at the Golden Globes has been a running joke for years — that's what he was referring to, I think.

Agree — wonder if he was threatening her, and she was trying to get away? I've been there. OTH, physical (and even some verbal) abuse is on a continuum of totally unacceptable one-strike behavior shared with other methods of violent bodily harm. Someone who can approach another human being and slap, hit, sock, punch,

My devout Catholic parents were exactly like this. And yet, they had 5 kids so obviously sex was on the agenda for them—just not anyone else under their roof or in the vicnity.

Oh honey this has been a thing (at least it was in the Midwest) since the 70s at least! I'm old. It became the tent pole for prom planning, and dance planning, too. Every single thing hinged on The Colerz — which, back then, was often lemon yellow and white, or dove gray and dusty rose. ::gagggy::

You have written the review of my mind! Especially the Something Good part — had to turn it off after I saw the dance was doomed, which—after The Lonely Goatherd—is easily my favorite 1.5 minutes of the movie.

Ahh. I've never heard that term exactly, but my ex works as a sports photographer and apparently they get a similar message across at golf events, with more profanity as it's for print, aimed at the khaki-clothed middle-aged men who love to cram up to the tiny rope and lean over the crouching photogs shouting GET IN

I once emerged after more than 3 hours and unloaded the cart into my car — and found the cubic zirconia stud earrings that I had been debating at the bottom, winking up at me, unpurchased. From the moment I step under the big red neon bull's eye, I'm a zombie.

I think you sound fabulous, and I'd like to read your memoir when it comes out.

Oh sad, wild, brilliant prose poem. You remind me of that Clairol Nice 'n Easy (as if) commercial with the quirky-handsome (the best kind) English guy pointing out that Kate's just... Kate! After all these years, after birthing our tiny adorable sprite and sending those coarse gray hairs to their glossy,

God I miss that show. All the smart stuff goes away, waaaaa.

You're right: a snooty publication founded on classism should remember the delicate eyes of its readers.

This is an after-school movie moral for the 21st century.
