I argue about this stuff (law, not rape) for a living, so I don't tend to let 'em bother me.

Yes, the accused should still face punishment under a lower burden of proof because the punishment is much less

Actually, drunk people cannot legally consent to having sex.

You do recognize that neither the colleges nor the police have great statistics for handling sexual assault cases in general right? What does it matter who is handling it when both actively try not to?

Wait. The students from UMBC admitted to having "consensual" sex with a drunk woman. That's rape.

No. Again: one has the right to not be persecuted by the government for an action they have not been found guilty of in a court of law. That right applies to nothing else, least of all schools and other private institutions.

One does, in fact, have the right to not be punished for an action he/she hasn't committed. That is the right which I'm defending.

Yet, you have no comment on my last point? "You'd think a frat, of all organizations, would recognize the irony of themselves being able to determine who is in their clubs while trying to strip the rights of another institution to determine who gets to partake in theirs.

You say that, but I have not heard one example or seen a single citation.

Once again, bro, WE ARE NOT FUCKING TALKING ABOUT THE GODDAMN JUSTICE SYSTEM. Literally no one has said that accusation = proof. No one has said that school administrators should act as law enforcement. All we are saying is that schools have the right to remove students from their campuses. Full stop.

Then you're an awful person.

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO TELL YOU. Schools cannot expel someone because of an accusation alone. They need a clear reason, and more often than not, in the context of students accused of rape, that reason is that the student is most likely a fucking rapist.

I did? When?

Yes, the government cannot punish you without due process, but we're not fucking talking about the government, are we?

Well then, that's the problem. This isn't a fun, thought-provoking discussion for some of us. It isn't a game. It isn't even an issue. It's our fucking lives. We live in fear of this every day. So if I am bitching, it's because I'm fucking sick and tired of not being safe.

Wait, did you just insult me for using a quote and then quote something else to me?

What do her age, skin color, or gender have to do with the quality of her opinion?

So, a victim chooses not to report, but the accused should still face punishment under a lower burden of proof- in some cases, without even being able to review the evidence against him/her?

Thanks for the link. I just made a $500 donation.

By the way, I don't know who you stupidly think you're lumping me in with when making your ridiculous assertion that "It's only accused rapists you all have a vested interest in protecting, even though all studies done on the subject prove that false allegations are exceedingly rare" but you should learn to discuss
