Wow, that is not what their games are at all. The “Go” in their titles is not as in “Pokemon Go”, but the Chinese strategy game “go”; they made their name making turn-based strategy games based off existing IP.
That’s my read on the series as well. As a casual CoDer, there are quite a few missions where the developers chose to specifically put you in the “guy with no good choice shoes” for a number of reasons (other than shock value - although that’s surelly part of the package).

In the right game, with the right framing, it’s possible that this kind of thing could be used as a poignant commentary on all sorts of different things - in general I don’t think video games should be exempt from doing that sort of thing just because they’re interactive.
If you compare this to the last Modern Warfare II where you could slaughter innocent people in a Russian Airport this practically looks like a step in the right direction.
