The world of work is full of unpleasant people. I have been grossly sexually harassed, but it didn't sour me on working for men.

"Old lady." Ouch.
Sexism, I think, often seems to be even worse in teaching than other fields. In my department, every man who can string two words together is a genius, according to most of the women I work with.
My husband has many, many people working for him, in an extremely male dominated industry. He is very careful about saying what women should or shouldn't do, but his advice to me has always been something like this, "I assume many other guys are assholes at work. The system women find themselves in will produce…
It's possible that the ones who had a hard time coming up think they are toughening you up or doing you a favor. They'd be wrong, of course. It's always better to be kind, but as an older woman, I can tell you, the path up can be a bitch.
Very well put. I think you hit some important aspects of how young women process this.
A lot of these replies, including yours(but sadly, not all), give me hope.
I assure you, it is not ridiculous. Internalized misogyny is something very real.
I am also in academia. I understand what you mean.
I'd give this ten stars if I could.
It really ticks me off that you have to put up with this. But I also admire your attitude.
I hate that so much. Only creeps do that.
What is sad to me is the number of women, young, middle aged and old, who say. "I don't like working for women."
I've read not read the book or seen the movie, but Shannon Hale, author of Austenland, has done some very good YA. Hale is a significantly better writer than Meyer.
Just wait until you are post menopausal. When, supposedly, no man will ever look upon you or desire you again, including your husband.
Fortunately, no matter what media tells you, men will, in fact, desire you after you are 50, and you don't have to endure the creepy random gaze anymore.
It's better after 50.
I'm willing to bet he'll opt out of his insurance when Obamacare becomes law. That way, he can get his special no birth control coverage.
How much you wanna bet that boutique care for nuts will evolve fromObamacare? And the most ardent supporters of such coverage will be Republicans!
Living in the middle if nowhere,…
I get the parental thing. My parents are past 80. The irritating parts of their personalities just don't matter as much. Realizing that has made me appreciate the better parts of who they are.
I completely understand. It's horrible, and invasive.
It's not even upper middle class out here in the middle of nowhere in the Midwest.
The whole menopause stretch can be very rough. But once you get past it, whee!!!
