Ugh that was the worst… So hacky.

YES, Nolanesque is the best way to put it. It didn't work for me, although I appreciate the ideas the film was trying to probe/put forward.
Good god, yeah. I actually still felt like the dead child motivating the protagonist was a bit cheap/overplayed here, but I did think the twist at least added to it. Much more interesting.
I didn't feel like it was too complicated or strange; I came out feeling like it was a bit of a mess that didn't quite come together for me. Great ideas, beautiful cinematography, but also a bit too much cheese (esp. a certain line near the end… vomit).
Yeah, that felt cheap to me. (I feel the same way I suspect I'll feel about Westworld once the big twist everyone's been guessing about comes to fruition…)
The general character in general felt like such a cliche to me. And yeah, definitely noticed multiple instances like the one you mentioned that took me out of the film.
It does basically make one god, given that Amy Adams has the power to not only see into her own future but also the dying words of the Chinese general's wife… so omnipotence.
Yeah, I felt like it was silly. This film ultimately did not work to me due to the climax. It has some interesting ideas and I love a good nonlinear construction, but it's also a bit hamfisted.
Yeah, it felt pretty hacky to me in execution, although there were some great visuals and an intriguing construction. Character development was pretty null, and I'm tired of movies that give cryptic backstories centering around a dead kid (just getting cliche at this point). There's also a line at the end that was so…
Valencia is BY FAR my fave character. Can't wait!
I actually agree with Handlen on the portion you quoted; I don't feel like there is real intellectual engagement being required… It's all very Nolan-esque surface-level philosophizing. I actually really like the show in spite of that, but worry that a really cheap twist is just around the corner.
I'd HATE that. The actors they hired don't look alike enough for it to be plausible.
I have to say, I think there are a lot of people out there from all walks of life who don't believe in bisexuality (and would consider it a deal-breaker, especially if it was a man sharing his experiences). They're wrong, wrong, wrong, but I think the show is doing an admirable thing about bringing it up and making…
I actually thought he had a lot of smart, interesting things to say about acting and the career path in general. To each his own?
GREAT post. Although I will say that it seems like a lot of TV writers/showrunners think the same way audiences think, and assume they need to write some craaaaa-aaa-zy twists into their shows to make it interesting. It goes both ways. That's how you end up with dumb plots like Dexter. I'm hoping this show doesn't go…
Would be such bad casting to make William turn into MiB. Not near enough facial similarities.
I think it's more just that we haven't figured out as an audience if we should be trusting the creators… Do they have a strong plot in mind that we'll eventually start to get more of a sense of, or are they just teasing us and piling on more layers that won't lead anywhere? (We've been burned before. Think the…
I think that's the only thing that gets annoying about "mystery box" shows… I like theorizing as much as the next person, but once all the theories start up, I get worried the truly dumb ones are true, because you never know how dumb a show's writing staff is. We've seen it happen before…
Animal cruelty complaints if the guests are fucking/hurting the horses.
LOL, as a white person, I find it hilarious how thin-skinned white people have to be to be offended by being "called out." Other ethnic groups have to deal with actual racism and discrimination. We're just mad about being called racists. It's so dumb.
