It's a charge card. From one of their websites: "Unlike Debit and Credit Cards, with an American Express Charge Card you can enjoy no pre-set spending limit and you must repay your full balance at the end of each month giving you total control over your expenses."

Gotcha. If you swap "debit card" with "amex" which isn't a credit card, we're pretty much in the same boat. Personally I feel both very fortunate that I'm not in a financial situation where I'd need to rely on credit to get by and proud for not letting myself getting into that kind of situation.
