I’m going to root for it. I love Dan Savage. I hope it does well in spite of the right wing opposition, but also in spite of its opposition from the radical left.

I don’t necessarily agree with this but food stamps isn’t meant for your entire food budget. It’s not like they are saying poor people can’t buy junk food at all, it just would be an ineligible purchase with food stamps.
Oh please. I’m pretty sure some Big Food Lobby is going to cross this one out real quick.
I actually agree with this... argument GO!!!
How does the old saying go “You buy cheap, you buy twice”?
you know jake from state farm?
Mr. Dr. Yoga Nerd MD got really drunk with his friends in like the first month we were dating and texted me something like “I wanna fuck you in high heel black boots”
Ah, yes, the problems of the privileged and/or out of touch.
I swear it’s not that hard to do your own nails, folks.
Like, I get it. But I've always found fault with this idea of liberal discourse - this "IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU" thing. Well, yeah, but by that logic, NOTHING is really about me, is it? You could also argue my experience of the world is limited to my own ability to perceive it, right? So in that sense, EVERYTHING is about…
Pretty much. It was just a disappointing response, is all. This seems like a pretty perfect time for a bit of introspection; if you frequented one of these locations, you unknowingly contributed to a horrifically unjust system. Full stop.
This is no joke. In Madrid nail salons have the look, feel, and buzz-in security of a jewelry store. When I was there a basic mani/pedi was $100E. I thought I must have been in a really ritzy neighborhood, but my housemates confirmed it was standard.
Nope. I ain’t even mad. She shoulda known better.
My whole adult life, when sitting at the nail salon the 2-3 times/year that I go, I try and do the math on how much I think the employees make. “There are 6 people working here. I’ll be here for an hour and spend $22...there’s a couple others getting pedi’s too...maybe $5 per hour at best?” So to hear that in NYC one…
I only know another group as attached and stupidly proud of their geographic location as newyorkers are...Texans. Probably neither will appreciate my comparison but it’s still true.
Cheap clothes, cheap food, cheap mani-pedis - all these things have a price, and if YOU’RE not paying it, it means someone else is.
I guess, as someone who doesn’t get regular manicures and who doesn’t live in a big city, they have always seemed expensive to me. I think I usually see prices of $15-20 for just a normal paint your nails situation (not acrylics, not nail art, etc.). I’ve had...three professional manicures in my life (one at a beauty…
Omg in spanish it’s “bueno bonito y barato para que compres a cada rato”
Well we live in a time where everything is made in china so people getting surprised that this happens does not surprise me.
I am actually having that problem now.
I had to leave Brooklyn due to gentrification, and moved to Queens.
The management company has told me they have received complaints about me from my Korean neighbor.
