To expound on your point, the drug users didn’t make an “unwise choice” to develop a drug habit. They were prescribed a medication for pain, by a licensed physician, which then caused massive addiction after just a few pills. Taking prescribed medicine should not be considered an “unwise choice”.

There used to be a goalie on the basketball rim, effectively. The first hoop was attached to an indoor elevated jogging track. (Those setups were more common in older gyms.) The backboard was incorporated so people wouldn’t kick the ball away while sitting behind the basket on the jogging track.
