I understand that it celebrates womanhood, which is great. But the movie is also just one big ad for a doll that has over the years created unrealistic body expectations for women. The Barbie that came with a diet book that simply said “Don’t eat” and a scale that is constantly stuck at 110lbs. She has always been

Clearly you haven’t seen the movie.  They even address that point in the movie when Sasha tells Barbie she hates her because of the unrealistic body expectations that her doll gives to young girls.  They never explore the theme any further but it is mentioned.

Since you’ve never met a little girl that said that then case closed!

What’s comical is that a movie based on a toy that has done more to hurt women’s body image is being celebrated as a film for womanhood.

Oh right.  So people that have actually seen the movie are required to like it.  I see.

You should at least have an understanding of how reviews are “verified” over at Rotten Tomatoes. The only way a review can be verified is if you purchased a ticket online through AMC Theaters, Regal Cinemas, or Cinemark and that the email address used to buy the ticket matches the email on your Rotten Tomatoes

Honestly it’s sadder that anyone cares about random reviews from people on the internet that caused an overall score of a movie to drop. Jesus Christ, Barbie isn’t the greatest fucking movie ever created and who really gives a fuck that it’s audience review has dipped?

Its not an evolution at all.  It’s always meant “the last word.”

The ending line absolutely killed in the theater I saw it in.  I mean I haven’t seen a theater that active and lively in years, and I love going to the movies.  I’ve been critical of the film being marketed to kids, but I did enjoy it an awful lot.

Its funny that a movie centered around female characters and their greatness somehow made Ken the most loveable character in the entire film. I don’t mean this in a bad way at all, but Ken 100% steals the movie right out from underneath all the Barbies.

Lake Mungo is garbage. The entire movie literally nothing happens until one split second scene at the end of the film, which really isn’t scary. I was so pumped to see this and when we finally watched it I couldn’t believe the amount of hype this film movie had garnered.  Don’t waste your time with it.

Because its named after a doll and marketed as a kids movie.

Yeah, you are dumb and lazy thinking a movie about Barbie isn’t a kids movie. Why on earth would anyone believe that? It would be like a movie titled “American Girl Doll” targeted to adults...Get real.

The article is discussing when a female lead is the protagonist that box office numbers tend to be lower. It never says that movies targeted to women won’t sell ticket. At least understand what you are quoting.

Uh, that’s not what you were implying.  The article is discussing when a female lead is the protagonist that box office numbers tend to be lower.  It never says that movies targeted to women won’t sell ticket.  At least understand what you are quoting.

LOL, you are quoting an article that discusses how Wonder Woman broke that illusion. No one was saying that in any reference to Barbie. It was always predicted to be a huge hit.

At least half of the audience has no idea that the film has a feminist message.  Take a look at the audience.  When I went over half of it was Mom’s with their young children who think this is a kids movie, when it's clearly not.

No one was saying that.
