I'm not at all saying they should have done it the other way, for exactly the reason you say. I was just pointing it out. (Also, I would like to amend "actually funny" to "sort of amusing".)

Interesting writing choice: the "28000 in dog years" joke comes before we learn that it's a dog charity, so we take a beat wondering why this character made such a random remark. In the other order, it's actually funny.

In case anyone comes along later and was wondering: it did not.
