I was wondering this same thing. As a nurse, I go through regular training and retraining on privacy laws and there’s no way I would ever film or photograph a patient or a procedure without getting permission in advance.

Nothing in the ER is sterile unless it’s opened from a sterile package or container. Unless the camera or recording equipment was coming in direct contact with a patient or their wounds or being handled over a sterile field, sterility would not really be an issue.
