my 24" is 1920x1200 and is just high enough, and that's partly because the screen is so reflective. So called HD is a joke played on the world. Retina is just a marketing name for "enough pixels per inch that at a normal distance for a given device you can't discern any individual pixel".

Retina - shmetina. Sure I'd like more resolution, and the 'retina' iPad has more pixels than my iMac 7.1 but most of the time the resolution is 'good enough'. What i'd really really like in my iMac display is a better dynamic range, and and a better evenness corner to corner.
