Your answer, as always, Aurora:

Never forget, that when the Republicans tell you that they’re opposed to big government, and they’re just trying to cut down on government waste and incompetence, DoD is exhibits 1, 1a, 2, 2a, 3 and 4. Food stamps is exhibit 463.

Ironically, I’d like to attach things to the roof of my MDX, but Acura fucked it up something fierce. They put non-functioning rails on the top so you can’t actually connect sliding crossbars to them.

If you can get your team on MLB.tv (i.e. you’re outside the local broadcast area), it’s the best—fantastic stats integration, choose your own camera angles, on demand replays, watch multiple games at once. It’s like what they promised cable would eventually be back in the 80s and 90s.

Yup, that’s the key. Until internet access gets legitimately unbundled from cable tv providers, it’s going to be difficult to truly cut the cord. I have a sneaking suspicion that Comcast/Xfinity would secretly throttle down internet speeds to make streaming more difficult if you cut the tv access.

I still don’t get it. What does the central office being closed have to do with people getting their returns postmarked or e-filed? (Most returns aren’t even sent to DC.) All of that is done with little or no interaction with personnel at the IRS. Also, Patriots’ Day in Mass. is not a federal holiday. All post offices

Just finished all the Silo books, and I’m honestly considering some Silo fan fiction. The author of Silo has claimed that some of the fan fiction is better than his books.

I’m a huge fan of the Kindle app for smart phones. It synchs with your Paperwhite. Now there’s no excuse to not be reading.

Felt that way about “The Road.” I was physically different for a few days after I finished it—depressed, tired, anxious. I took it as the sign that it was a powerful book. Maybe a little too powerful.

A great “bookend” with:

I feel a cultish devotion to this comment.

Why do local/state holidays have any impact on when people have to file their federal taxes? There are no state postal holidays, so it doesn’t have to to with getting your return stamped.

Ha. I looked at those and thought, “man, there’s something to be said for modern metallic paint.”

It’s ironic that you say that. I played youth, high school and Div 1 college football. After college I took up marathon running. I was a fast-ish age-group runner, but nothing special. But I did train up to 70 miles some weeks. I can say conclusively that the marathon running has done much more physical damage to me

Now playing

7th grade dance, 1983, grinding all around:

Hopefully this means that Guccionne is going “all in” (which, coincidentally, was also a Penthouse photo spread from the December 1998 ) on the reboot of Omni.

By Midwest, we’ll assume you don’t mean Chicago since we had school holidays for Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah and a town sukkah way back in the day. There was a reason that the Blues Brothers were always dealing with Illinois Nazis.

I’d argue that either Benicio del Toro or Josh Brolin in Sicario were both better than Christian Bale or Mark Rylance.

I’m Jame Gumb, and I approve this message. Say, are you about a size 14?
