As a Star Wars fan, Karyn Kusama’s Star Wars sounds like a waste of her talents. Even if it fits her wheelhouse (“Dathomir Double Lightsaber Massacre”), I’d much rather see her do almost anything else.

Sorry, that isn’t a critique of the story. I was just trying to get into the headspace to understand the backlash among male readers who are made angry by it. I mean, I’m a guy, so a part of me “felt” this, even if I found it more thought-provoking and daring than cheap.
