Yeah sure, because an Isolationist Policy and high tariffs (which can be imposed both ways remember...) worked so well in the 1920's and early 30's that it’ll be a great idea to do it all over again 100 years later. I mean it only took a Global War to sort out the bugs in those policies back then...

Why not? It worked out so well for our soybean farmers the last time Trump did this particular stupidity!

lol, you except the chicken tax, covering the largest US automotive sector, then call my claims “hand waving”.

Like? That word isn’t necessary. Listen to any talk he’s ever given about tariffs. He has no clue on the basic fundamentals of how they work.

Sad when what they wish he’d said instead was still a bit insane.

Like you would tell your insurance company. Post loss, if they notice best case you don’t get a penny for it, worst case they don’t cover you. A lot of “it depends”. Were you going faster than you could have in the stock car? Though that is actually VERY rare in the US. Some other countries, any deviation from stock

Buffoon says buffoonish thing.

What did they do in the 80s when this exact thing was being said about Japanese cars?

I mean, that you had to mention the chicken tax for one. Or the 25 year rule banning imports. Or NAFTA/USMCA.

Instead of thinking of ways to make American cars less expensive, The Orange Traitor Tot wants to make inexpensive cars more expensive. Fucking thanks....

I’ve been granted TS/SCI Clearance, the process does not change.

Pray for a stroke, but work to get out the vote like he could win.

F-ing Exactly. The Fascism is the point.

I, too, hope with every fiber of my being that he doesn’t win.  But to act like it’s not a possibility, or a coin flip, is way too optimistic.

On the other hand, if they can’t build cars that are affordable for the bottom 80 percent of the population what future do they have anyway?

What makes them* so unfair, to say, a vehicle made in Japan or Europe?

Fixed that for us all.

I’d argue that anyone that CANNOT pass a TS/SCI Clearance investigation not be allowed to run for ANY Federal office.

On the list of absolutely horrifying things DT would do if allowed back into office, this would likely rank #726th. He’s all but certain to green-light a nuke drop on Mexico anyways (cartels! drugs! mules!), so “automobile construction” wont even be a thing in that country soon afterwards.

Industry self regulation has been an ANTI- government tirade since the Regan years. It seems to always fail. see railroads, chemical, and food industries.
