When I saw the headline come up on another site, I just guessed it was on I-10 through NM, not in IL.

The number operating the train likely isn’t going to change. The number needed to inspect the cars in the yard and fix what’s needed is a bigger issue. The management attitude of “if it rolled into the yard, it can roll right back out” is a factor in many of these derailments.

I saw a similar vehicle the other day with commercial license plates and I’m guessing a minivan for the missus to haul kids to the ball park wouldn’t have the same tax advantages.

It’s funny that there are many “campgrounds” where people have towed those huge campers and have proceeded to build decks, sheds, permanent plumbing, etc around the camper.  It’s a way to have a vacation home, but with RV build quality and efficiency.

They aren’t cheaper because they use less materials. The difference in materials is minor as others have pointed out. The OEMs price the CUV/SUV models more thanks to the marketing department. You will have seen more ads showing a CUV trudging along through deep snow or some other form of shitty weather with the hint…
