Why are thinkpieces on disposable pop music a thing?
Why are thinkpieces on disposable pop music a thing?
Poptimism was a mistake
Really?
Am I the only one who liked Branagh’s Orient Express? It had a great cast with some sumptuous visuals, and since I had never seen the 70s film or read the book, I genuinely didn’t know the ending.
and “Hart,” like “Candy,” is a noun if you spell it differently
Cruise crushes it in tropic thunder. He can do comedy if he wants
The full movie is up on Youtube. Its production values make 1970s porn look like cinematic masterpieces in comparison and it includes some of the least erotic ‘sexy hippie’ nudity I’ve ever seen.
That outfit is pretty edgy...for 2002. In 2020 it’s just sad.
It’s been nine years since I read the last book, but my recollection is Dany is alive. Jon is dead. Bran hasn’t been seen in ages.
What can I say, getting old sucks.
I really wish people would actually discuss what she said. Not just pivot to the bullshit “it’s about the bathroom issue,” which is bullshit. Plenty of people, including John Cleese, do not know what she said wrong. But having an actual adult conversation requires brain power, thought, and ability to not automatically…
The backlash against J.K. Rowling, who has literally done more for the social good than any of the people attacking her, is insane, and I do not believe for a second that it’s motivated by anything more than whatever impulse causes bullying, shaming, and witch-hunt behaviour.
She has explained herself poorly, and made some unusual comments, but the idea that she’s some trans-hating monster would be hilarious if it wasn’t so stupid.
In other news, The AV Club decides to keep giving J.K. Rowling lots of attention.
So by this logic that means you all the AV Club really, really like her.
To be fair, the original audience for the show was very young girls. Creepy dudes coming in and sexualizing the characters made it very difficult for younger fans to engage with the show online without running into this crap. Especially when the creepiness spills over into real life.
Not sure if I should be more concerned about the Nazi pony, or that grown men are sexualizing toys meant for children.
“He said ‘Mommy’!”
I guess most important to note, is that Isaac from “Children of the Corn” played a horse jockey in this film. That’s right, it was He Who Walks Behind The Rows!
I like the way “Wag the Dog” is shot quasi documentary-style, lots of overlapping dialogue, random camera zooms. That kind of thing can be “meh” or just an affectation that doesn’t add anything, but it works in this movie, in my opinion and it’s not really Levinson’s usual mode.
