Gungrave! I loved that show. Watched the whole thing a few years ago with my wife. Momiji is indeed tragic in Fruits Basket. I have not seen the rest of the things you mentioned. I had Scryed vol 1 on dvd at some point but never got the rest of the series.

Angel Beats is on my list to watch soon. Fellow AniTAY writer Dilkokoro recommended it to me.

Another anime I have never seen. And at 900+ episodes.... probably never will.

Unfortunately neither me nor my cow have seen either of those series. I can’t speak for my duck or my sheep, though. Perhaps one day we’ll get around to them.

I’ve never seen Your Lie in April. Maybe one day I will, but I was warned that because I hated the emotional manipulation of I Want To Eat Your Pancreas that I probably wouldn’t appreciate an entire series based on a similar premise. Read more

I like a lot of CLAMP things but Cardcaptor Sakura is probably too kiddy-ish for my tastes these days. It passed me by completely when it was originally broadcast. (I hope resident Cardcaptors fanatic TheMamaLuigi doesn’t read this comment, he’ll be horrified at me.) Read more

I agree. Both series are great but they have their own very individual strengths.

The tragic Kamina aspect was well done, but I wasn’t sold on the needless tragedy at the ending.

Oh, the horror... Just when you think that story can’t get any more messed up, the later volumes of the manga go all in on the depravity and vicious suffering. I worry about the author’s mental health. Fantastic show though, especially that scene where Reg “helps” Mitty... Just makes me tear up thinking about it.

Oh, I’ve seen A Place Further Than The Universe. Had not heard of it by that name before. It was good, definitely tearjerking towards the end. I think I might go back to watch Re:Creators again myself one day. I’d love to have a physical copy of that, but as it’s an Amazon Prime show, that seems unlikely to happen.

8th Son looked like garbage from the outset so I avoided that. I’m pretty selective about what shows I’ll watch, so it’s rare that I subject myself to something truly awful. I liked most of the shows I watched this season, apart from Listeners. Sing Yesterday For Me was quite special, shame about the rushed ending.

From your list I only watched Re:Creators, an anime I feel was unfairly ignored. I enjoyed it! Can’t remember if it made me cry but there were some sad bits. I hope the Bunny Girl Senpai movie becomes legally available in the UK as that was my number 1 anime TV show of 2018.

It’s such a great anime, but you wouldn’t think so from the only the first two fairly generic episodes. But that final episode is amazing. I’ve still got my PAL VHS box set of that lying around somewhere. My girlfriend (now wife) bought it for me years ago as a Christmas present!

I think this character’s death had more impact in the original FMA because he was around for more of its run - Brotherhood really rushed through all the early plot points and we didn’t get as much of a chance to become attached to Maes Hughes. It was still very sad, though.

This show is on my Eternal Streaming Backlog of Shame. One day I’ll get around to it. I know plenty of other AniTAY authors like that show.

Oh yeah, I also love Steins;Gate - some parts are desperately sad. Also episode 8 of Steins;Gate 0 made me fall apart too (the episode where Okabe briefly skips world lines to one where Kurisu is still alive).

Thanks, Stin. We’ll be writing another one soon, so I’ll let you know.
