Well that is the whole point of AI. Artificial Intelligence will not need input from humans, eventually. They literally will have a brain and will learn, much like humans do. We are still decades away from that but that's where they fear comes in. If a robot can think and believe its alive, what will it do?

From what I have gathered, the EU had just been dissected. The new movies will have some flavor from the EU but existing as the new standard for the series. I know a lot of us loved EU books/comics but I have hopes that the new movies will usher in a beautiful new era in Star Wars.

I think they could really go in a whole new direction. We all know how Meta the movies are so I could see someone being inspired by the Scream movies but creates his own world and iconic mask.
