No worries; I’m happy to wait!

... We are still talking about the Kristen Stewart who was in no less than five Twilight movies, right? And Snow White and the Huntsman?

Yeah, they were doing things like endorsing presidential candidates. For better or worse, that movie’s marketing actively played into the whole “finally, a Ghostbusters film for women!” thing.

If only they’d pushed a “make it good” agenda onto it instead, amirite?

Barbie, we love you, but it’s time to log off.

It was definitely not overshadowed by that

So what you’re saying is, it’s going to receive an absurd positive over-correction that will in turn irritate people sufficiently to resort to a negative over-correction which sends its reputation right back to what it currently is, at which point the reappraisal will begin again.

Well, he’s not exactly a mop, and he’s not exactly a puppet, but man!...

And sometimes they missed and hit London!

Sure, but for better or worse he’s also an instantly recognisable icon of modern science and the twentieth century. People will ‘use’ him as they will, scolding or no.

He’s also been dead for about seventy years and it’s a bit of dumb fun on the internet about how he’s not a conventional heartthrob. If we were to only restrict ourselves in finding entertainment value in the historical icons / people in general who weren’t flawed or problematic in some way, we wouldn’t have much fun

Honestly, it seems like part of the problem here is that Marvel kind of hamstrung themselves by making the Skrulls a displaced persons metaphor in Captain Marvel, since it meant that they couldn’t really lean into the Skrulls-as-villains that this kind of plot demands.. They wanted to upend the traditional depiction

Not sure if it’s better, but that one sounds less like it’s a biopic and more like it’s a bit of wartime “he beat the Jerries last time so let’s shovel out a rah-rah movie about how great he was” propaganda.

Fair point.

I take it all back. This alone makes everything worth it.

But they’re everywhere, magpie! Everywhere! Everywhere I turn! Every article on every site! And we have to be informed of everything! Every tweet! Every behind the scenes detail! Every YouTube video! And it’s been like that for what feels like months! My dreams are full of nothing but Barbenhemier, like I’ve been

Well obviously I hate fun, that goes without saying. But even if I didn’t, my point is that people have only been able to enjoy these movies for about a day or so.

Getting some distinct Undercover Brother vibes as well.

I prefer Batman Begins to The Dark Knight.

I’m not saying I think either Barbie or Oppenheimer will be bad, and I’m not saying that people who they’ll be good are bad, but I am saying that I’ve personally reached the point where I personally think it wouldn’t be a wholly terrible thing if people shut the living fuck up about Barbie and Oppenheimer for maybe
