So, uh, The Green Hornet was a real personal film for Seth Rogen, huh. Real expression of his deep innermost feelings, baring his soul for the screen.

To be fair, plumbing wasn’t my example. But while I’ll definitely concede that plumbing isn’t the easiest career path to enter either, it’s nevertheless still a more difficult (and in many ways quite yucky) job that even in success lacks most of the privileges and rewards bestowed upon those in the entertainment

Only if we’re being a bit reductive. I mean, there’s nothing wrong with being a plumber, but I bet if you surveyed plumbers and gave them the option of instead getting an easy track into a career that gave them immense wealth and fame and adoration, cultural influence, and a pretty much zero percent chance of coming

Have you seen the “this ain’t a Bob Ross” thread? Muddying the waters to this degree would cause literal fistfights to break out over the confusion.

Honestly, this counter-argument against the whole nepotism issue always strikes me as a little silly and missing the point. The reason no one cares if your plumber got a hand getting into the industry from his dad or uncle or whoever is because that got your plumber an easy cheat-code fast lane into a life of fixing

I’m gonna fall on my sword and admit, to what is no doubt the shock and disgust of the great and good responding to you here, that I have a bit of an it’s / its blindspot. It’s an elementary error, sure, but it’s also an easy error to make and slip through.

I mean, in total fairness the guy is a stand-up comic. Translating his personal frustrations, dislikes and gripes into jokes he then gets paid to tell in public is kind of part of the job description. Passive-aggressive and not very nice to be on the receiving end of, perhaps, but there it is.

I’m speaking a bit more broadly / generally than just this article, to be fair; there’s plenty of people who seem to indulging in a bit of victim-blaming around all of this.

Well, I was being a bit glib, but sure, I’ll amend that to “I’m pretty sure that a shitty joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith’s hair evoking GI Jane is a minor sin not in need of any kind of violent retribution”. Sure, making fun of a woman’s hair-loss is not very nice, but it was also a bit of mildly passive-aggressive

It is truly fascinating to me to see how people bend over backwards to make out that the guy who got smacked in the face during a live broadcast by a major movie star who has about eight inches and fifteen pounds on him, not to mention apparently a massive fan base who’ll go all-in on him no matter what he does, is

Truffaut once said that you can’t make a truly anti-war film; the act of narrativising and fictionalising war in a way that will make people actually watch your movie will always make it, in some small way at least, exciting and entertaining and appealing. It’s a similar kind of deal with vigilante movies, since you

Willingly suspending your disbelief is tight!

“Sometimes it doesn’t matter how ornate the grandfather clock is, it’s the pendulum that draws the eye...”

Counterpoint: he sounds perfectly fine, and it’s only a combination of video game nostalgia and “worst Chris” memes that this is a thing to begin with.

Eh, not saying this is gonna be good or worth the creep factor or anything, but from HBO’s POV this has a hot-stuff critically acclaimed creator and arty cinematography for the critical cred and promises oodles of sexy-times and big names for the viewers, whereas even at it’s best Batgirl was almost certainly just

Stuff like this is just background noise and moving wallpaper for people while they’re making their morning breakfast and preparing to go to work. Never mind streaming services and peak content and golden age of TV and whatever, I can’t imagine one’s going to their Netflix queue first thing in the morning when they’re

I thought that was good stuff, you know? And so I was just despondent, and I was really sad about it.”

Honestly, the way people are reacting you’d think the list contained things like ET The Atari Game and Superman 64. They’re not all my personal favourites, but I can’t see any one of those selections which is out of place on a ‘best of’ list.

True, but in total fairness like you say this is a ‘benefit of hindsight’ thing now. It probably seemed a lot more urgent for the British to make sure Franco wasn’t thinking of joining in back in 1941.

Despite Pratt’s questionable voice acting
