I have little problem with interesting and different names but it's not interesting or different to name a kid after a central character in a piece of popular culture.

Yeah, that father is trying to make it seem like his kids are too young for this discussion, but the issue here is his discomfort with the conversation, not theirs. He even said it causes questions he doesn't feel are appropriate, i.e. he doesn't think this teacher is appropriate, full stop.
