Whoooaaa, just actually read that article. Girls, what an unnecessary demographic!
How do you know if you're allergic to a dog? I spent about an hour with a dog at a local shelter. Unofficially adopted it, meaning that I just have to fill out the application and pay the fee; there's a sign on the dog's kennel saying that the dog is adopted. But since I've been home, and for the last two hours, my…
So I saw Belle this week and really liked it! And not only is it about an upper class mixed race woman in 18th century England, it was also directed by a black woman. Get thee to a theater near you when it opens.
yeah I feel super gray :-(
Well, I started watching The Baby-Sitters Club on Netflix.
OH MY GOSH HERE COMES A RANT.
I'm reading my wife's manuscript and also starting They'd Rather Be Right (the second Hugo winner) for my Hugo/Nebula project. Almost impossible to find it but thankfully a librarian friend of mine found an old, dilapidated copy in their system.
Gotta be done some time; why make it into a bigger fuss than it needs to be?
Bravo! But this does not go nearly far enough. We should also stop telling kids they will have to learn how to drive, because the future will have flying cars. Actually, we should also stop teaching children how to walk, because the future will have hoverpods. And we should stop teaching them how to eat, because…
This is the correct answer; if we're taught "science is awesome and don't worry we're not gonna die because science is awesome" there's no impulse for people to go figure that out in the first place.
Living forever as in Tuck Everlasting was the only thing more terrifying than death (ha). Dying is a tough thing for me to deal with - I always think of suffocation - but being a rock on the side of the road is worse.
This is exactly what I thought of as well. My brother passed away 4 yrs ago and my niece 4 and nephew 8 did not cope well at first. They were so close to him and their parents were too. I can't imagine what would happen if they were taught no one ever dies.
Seriously. My 11 year old was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes last year just after her birthday. This is a life-long condition that as of right now has no cure. Yes they are constantly working on better treatments (artificial/bionic pancreas, oral insulin) and a true cure (some sort of RNA treatment or something that…
Did you see the Key and Peele vampires sketch? "I got myself bit because I wanted to live forever and see future-cars. What's wrong with you people?"
I think talking to kids honestly about death is important. I lost my mother to cancer when I was little and the pain was made worse by the fact that I had no idea that she was going to die. It was obvious to everyone else (she had cancer, as adults they knew what that meant), but it wasn't obvious to me.
I definitely don't want to end up like Pierce Hawthorne.
How sad is it that this guy is so scared of being old and dying, that he writes this bullshit?
Jeez, I sometimes get sick of being this me now. The idea of being me forever is at least a little irksome.
There's something else you have to overcome first to overcome death if this turns out to be true. It's called being poor.
