You know, I hadn’t even thought of that and I see your point. At the same time, I feel like I should reserve judgement of the parents until we know more. For all we know they’ve been trying to help her privately for a long time and they thought that blowing her cover was the only way. And they didn’t really blow her

Oh, for sure. But by investigating that they dug up soooooo much crazy that the auto-threats seem like an afterthought.

I think that was a really poor choice of words but like other commenters have pointed out, it wasn’t said maliciously, it was a live interview and he was trying to explain that they adopted 3 black kids from the US and 1 from Haiti. Totally should have said that in a different way but I didn’t see any malicious intent

And that’s the least crazy part about this whole story.

Why do you think her parents sound horrible and destructive? If anything I think they seem pretty nice, if a little clueless. Rachel is starting to sound more and more like a delusional narcissist with a messiah complex. She actually sounds like a lot of activists/NGO people I know (huge egos, messiah complex,

Yeah, I think it was (very) poorly worded phrase but I didn’t get the impression that he had any kind of malicious intent.

This!

That makes him even weirder than her. So much WTF.

... and that is even weirder!

I wonder about her husband, who’s black and apparently attended Howard too. So did he know her back when she was white? Was he ok with her reverse passing?

Exactly! I don’t understand all these prudes who are all, no one can fuck in a guest bedroom unless they’re specifically told they can. Context is everything too. Obviously if it’s an overcrowded house with paper thin walls you wouldn’t do it but a proper guest bedroom? Back when I had one and was hosting couples, I

Seriously? That seems so weird to me. Unless you’re guests at your grandmother’s or a church lady’s or something, or your rooms are right next to each other and the walls are paper thin.

Yes, you’re being crazy. You can use whatever hair product works for your hair.

I’d say she’s a cultural impersonator rather than appropriator though.

Yeah, I agree. I think I just assume that people are pretty clueless about anyone from a different background or culture. Not the same at all but for instance I’m white and Latin American and the stereotypes about Latinos in tv and movies can be pretty outrageous as well, never mind 50 years ago. Not to mention in

I don’t think you’re a hypocrite. I think you have the necessary perspective to know that you can’t judge a film from 1961 with third millennium values. If something like that got made today I’d be out there protesting too but we’re talking about something that was made over half a century ago.

Seems a little extreme to dismiss an entire film based on the casting of a character who isn’t even central to the story. Plus the movie is from 1961, if we were to stop enjoying everything that was made before political correctness, we would be left with zero movies and books from before, like, 1995.

Personally, I blame her eyebrows.

There’s that for sure but I’m not gonna lie, I’m evil and I’m also laughing at her. It’s just impossible not to.

I find it fascinating and confusing and just chock full of wtf. I want/need to know more. She’s a piece of work for sure and part of me can’t help but find the whole thing hilarious.
