FYI: Patrick Stewart has played Othello. As for Lister and Cat, well, Red Dwarf hasn't been remade, but BSG has and Boomer and Tigh were originally black dudes.

No, you don't understand: they're not still making Shaft movies. Maybe you should pick a black character that's also pre-established but has been consistantly on our screens for decades to make your comparison a little more apt.

I thought they would be. Whenever there's a clear leader for this kind of thing it's because someone with insider knowledge encouraged someone to bet HUGE.

I know it's a joke, but it's a legitimate concern! Lots of future journeys and other worlds for the first black Doctor, to be sure.

Yes, and then if they go independent we can threaten to retcon him, dub him in future DVD releases, or never let them have Murray back ;)

I assumed this. Eccleston and Davidson is a sort of easy mix up, and I wasn't under the impression the guy knew who it was.

Kind of? when it comes to Bond, the character's SOCIAL background is very different from the majority of Black Britons.Colin Salmon would've been a cool Bond though.

As happy as I am to know who the new Doctor is, I wish they'd wait until we could see his costume too!

Nationality seems to be the one characteristic no one would argue against.

If you actually watched the films you would have realised that long ago. That "theory" was always dumb, it never worked.

Not that I necessarily disagree with you, but what WOULD "scream whiteness" in your opinion?

Patterson Joseph is such a good suggestion, maybe one day.

They're not still making Shaft movies though.

GINA TORRES?!

Yeah, I can get why people would like to see the show built around an actress, but I don't know that gender-swapping the character is the way to go. Maybe kill off The Doctor properly, no regeneration, and have him pass the title on to a Time Lady.

What did you use to get your dock like that?

I hate that they would ban this, but paparazzi is totally okay.

"What the pilot doesn't have is a lot of drama or suspense. There are almost no stakes in this first episode, and there's almost no effort to get you excited if you weren't already excited."

That would be nice and neat. It'd introduce the LMD concept, keep his sacrifice, bring along the trusty ol' robot-that-feels-like-a-man story...I like it.

Sharon Carter is in The Winter Soldier played by Emily VanCamp. I'm guessing she's as much of a possibility as any other MCU supporting character.
