I like The National but don’t at all understand people (e.g. Steve Hyden) who adore them. Even at their absolute best, I can’t rise above just “this is meticulously crafted, amusingly versed, and I could listen to it again”...which is not necessarily a bad thing, sometimes good middlebrow is just what you need. But…
