All food has choking potential. For dogs, that potential is not zero, and I’m sure that it happened to your dog and occasionally does happen to others, but I can come up with lots of things that would merit more caution for a dog than a hot dog.

I am referring to the sides, and as somebody with a lot of ranch work under their belt, the 1st gen Ridgeline would have been a non-starter as well.
