I don’t know if they are overpaying or underpaying their workers. That is determined more by how many applications they get for each job. But I am pretty sure if we hand out some pay raises and the cost of the cars goes up 5%, that isn’t going to do wonders for sales. And then when they sell less cars, they need less

It is a quote from a sci fi book talking about a made up society where everyone dueled over every perceived slight. Someone thought it sounded good and took it out of context.

Price out first class tickets for some of these flights. Build a plane to target that market and you might be able to get it to work especially with the increase in flights between places like SF and china. Now maybe the private supersonic jet (yeah more vaporware) is the real plane for that market

Hey in the movies it is trivial to shoot out of a car and hit something you are aiming at. Why wouldn’t this guy think that would work?  It is hard to believe randomly spraying gunfire in public is a protected right.  And of course lets not ignore that all he had to do was slow down for like 5s and he would have been

Who knew making cars at scale was so hard.... I am sure foxconn will figure out this stuff but it could take a half dozen of years and a few billion dollars. I am not sure if either company has that type of time or desire to spend the money. I can’t imagine any way they can crank out 250k Fiskers in a year or two.

The hope is that people go from 3 beers to 1 beer when they go out. How reasonable that is is a different story. Undoubtly there will be a bunch of cases of people in the .06 range getting caught.

Traffic deaths fell for a couple of years but have started to rise. US in ()

The Ami is good for 50miles at less than 30mph. There is going to be a very small subset of the population where that meets their needs. Start adding in any safety gear so you can go 50mph and the cost will skyrocket. See the smart EV.

That was a big idea around 2010. I don’t think the math ever worked out since the trucks didn’t spend enough time in stop and go conditions to make up for having to carry the extra weight.

Because they are talking 10-15+ years in the future. That is a long time. The tesla semi might have  been on the market for 10 years. Might... In a lot of ways these releases are just for planning. If in 2040, you are operating in CA, you  better have some EVs. You can move the old ICE to doing transport on the east

Thats why you rent your car from hertz and get a new one ever couple of months.... Seriously in 8 years I wouldn’t be shocked to see 10x+ apartments offering charging. We are getting close to the tipping point for adoption.

Isn’t taxi sharing mainly to exploit the medallion? I am not sure it matters much if you wear out your car in 4 years or 8 years and there are some benefits to not sharing your car.

I thought by 2030, everyone would have self driving cars....

This a PR release. In 3-5 years when people are buying cars they will be driving in 2030, it will start to matter. But odds are when 2030 arrives, things will be postponed. When they see that only half of their fleet is EVs, they will go no new ICEs but existing ones can stick around for a few more years....

I have to imagine at some point they are looking to add something like apples neural engine or googles tensor that is optimized for machine learning instead of graphics like a gpu. But I am not sure what available cores there are for things like that. I doubt car companes really want to go all in on  chip design

Maybe the NVIDA chips had a ton of functionality they don’t need but I have to imagine they taking an existing SOC and makning slight tweaks to get a chip customized for their use case.We tend to see cycles between generalized and custom depending where they are in the product cycle. I am amazed though that they find

Lithium Ion has pretty much met all the goals that they talked about when it was the breakthrough battery tech of the late 80s. Granted it took like 20 years..... Now the other half a dozen revolutionary tech of the time really never went anywhere. A lot of the breakthroughs we hear about sort of get folded in in ways

Most rentals places are not going to preemptively install stuff that their customers don’t use. 10 years ago, there were basically zero apartment complexes with EV charging near me. Now it is pretty much standard in any new complex AND most of the old high end ones have retrofitted in charging. If you walk through the

I am fine with both of them. I might not understand but by the time you hit 25 you are mature enough to know what the heck you are doing. If you want to trade looks for cash, go for it.  The dating of 18-22 year olds by people over 30, is the sketchy as hell area. Those 3-4 years of seasoning as an adult change most

So if Porsche is worth 85B and VW with Porsche is wroth 85 billion does that mean VW, Audi, Lambo, and rest are worthless? I always find these splits a bit odd. It is one thing if they are in different fields but we are looking at basically a bunch of automakers who share tons of infrastructure.
