Most of the games start off where these events are just advertising. Some of them grow enough so that the scene it self starts generating revenue as people buy team merch and the like and pump money into the ecco system. These type of errors aren’t very common but do show up on a regular basis given how many stations there are. Maybe at some point that add in some more verification steps but there will always be someone that screws up.

It comes down to how long you are willing to wait for the car. It would be easy to have regional lots that can get you a car in say a week (well assuming any supply exists) but then you have to wait a week. And the dealer has to worry about you trying to undo the deal...
