I think that IS what will be required unless there is some grassroots revolt from the folks who have made their livings in those industries - the “ordinary Americans”. Again, using the tobacco example - I’m guessing that there is still big money but the user base has shrunk so significantly b/c people did not like

My guess: For the same reason that cigarette smoking was . . . big industry dollars. If the green technology was in lock-step with evidence of humans’ influence on climate and if big industry players were fully engaged to make the same $$$, it would not be a political issue. It would be an economic opportunity issue.

I agree with you but I think it’s even worse than that when it comes to vaccines. In your example, as a society, we have decided that some laws are good in order to protect idiots (or the idiots’ kids) from the idiots themselves. With vaccines, it is not a parental choice/narrow protection issue but a public health

US Military?  “GI Joe cares about your kids.  Vaccinate!  #warriorsagainstdisease”

I do think the post is akin to a humble brag.  “I’m so young that I have never even considered Jeremiah Johnson” while the old among us just hear, “You old people knew this immediately, right?”  At least, that’s what I heard

Yeah but that draft was tough after Hakeem. I mean, if only there had been a promising off guard or maybe an undersized power forward available when the Blazers drafted . . .

I mean, the fact he has differently sized legs is not Portland’s management’s fault.

I had forgotten about that one. Fortunately that was a thin draft after Hakeem.

Holy cow.  They should have a max height of 6'6".  Maybe 6'8"?

When I read that, I figure you were talking about Bill Walton and then I remembered, I’m so old for Deadspin and you were probably talking about Greg Oden.  Then I realized, fuck, Blazers.  That really is some kind of voodoo shit going on with legs and big men.  It must be the donuts

As Vizzini might say, Kyle fell victims to one of the classic blunders.  EVERYONE gets 99.99%, just like the optician reads your body language and says you look WONDERFUL with that pair of glasses.

I have no medical background so take this with a heaping of grains of salt . . .

That’s the thing.  He doesn’t actually KNOW the words but that secret government program is, in a sense, broadcasting THROUGH him.  Genius, really.  If freaky.

The passion.  Oh, the passion.  Impressive.

This stuff is really important to you. I tend to save that passion and focus for my family.

I don’t wish physical ill on anyone but you are not wrong.

I live in Berkeley and my friends are either Warriors’ fans or don’t care about the NBA. Everyone I know is bummed about the injuries. Everyone I know wished the Warriors had competed at full strength. And everyone I know - EVERYONE - credits the Raptors for earning this championship. You play the team in front of you

don’t have to back that far . . . last fall’s CONCACAF tourney saw CWNT beat Cuba 12-0.

someone may have already posted this but less than a year ago, Thailand was involved in an Asian-based tourney that had some wild scores. In group stage, the Thai women won 8-0, 11-0, 8-0. Earlier in the year, they won a “friendly” over Indonesia 13-0. Rapinoe’s goal celebration (she scored to make it 9-0) may have

Pretty sure Rocker coaching 1st or 3d (whichever is nearest the Duke dugout) will be sufficiently intimidating to cause the Blue Devils to unravel. He was amazing to watch last night.
