So, I'm thinking a "Beano" branded machine should be avoided?

I recently read the Grapes of Wrath. This book rings true today. It really changed my views on the american illusion that people can control their success in the united states if they just work hard enough. Pop this baby on your kindle and enjoy and epic american novel. PS. all book covers for this book are horribly…
"On the other hand, I've read a whole bunch of libertarian fiction that has utterly failed to convince me. Love me some Vernor Vinge, but I don't think economics or human nature will ever work the way he thinks it does."
I have had much the same reaction. I know many Libertarians, and they consistently assure me that,…
I'm working my way through Treme right now. It's wonderful in every way. I'm not sure why it never caught on with folks.
The first episode has two of my favorite TV exchanges of ALL TIME:
Well, Edith Hamilton's "Mythology," which was assigned to me back in my Catholic School days, planted the seed to undo 100% of the Catholic School education.
Religious groups having political power/influence, continued existence of an economic aristocracy, being the only industrialized country without universal socialized healthcare, people who don't believe in science, prevalence of coal/oil/gas burning power plants, continued popular fear of nuclear power, people who…
Faxes! People should NOT still be asking me to fax things.
Can we get the opposite of a star system for comments like this? Maybe just a little icon of Darren Rovell's face we can click to highlight a particularly idiotic comment?
... And pretty much everything from Pre-Columbian Meso-America...
Yeah, in my mind The Shining joins the club of the very few books where the movie is actually better than the source material. The Godfather and Fight Club are also in that club.
I'm not a fan of King's interminable exposition. He does go on a bit...
agreed, although I have given movies second chances. Inglorious Basterds dissapointed me the first time I saw it, but the second time I fell in love. Same with Blade Runner, I'm sure there other examples I just can't think of. Books are too time consuming to give second chances.
I've never reread a novel I hated. Why would someone do that? I barely have time to reread the novels I adore considering how many interesting books there are that I haven't read yet!
And why are we laughing at this again? In no way should we be encouraging any pregnant woman to get sauced.
Personally, and having just watched this recently on Netflix, I liked Pulaski. TNG needed a character that was a bit rough-around-the-edges, telling it like it is, and she provided that. I preferred her to Crusher's softer approach to almost everything.
I would watch a buddy cop show about Pulaski and Odo.
Practically any cast member added to Sliders after John Rhys-Davies left. But specific "wow does he not fit" award goes to this guy:
She may not have meshed with the other characters, but I liked her so much more than Crusher.
I like her as a character much better than Dr. Crusher. The was a compelling character even though they failed to flesh her out, and I liked that there were people in the crew that she didn't automatically get along with.
