On that note, not only can they fabricate damaged parts, if there’s enough money you can still build exact replicas nowadays. There’s this fascinating story about this rich guy who was on the market for a Tyrrell P34 to race in historic F1 events, and happened to discuss the amount he was offering to current owners -

Alessi should have known how difficult those cars are to drive with a throbbing erection.

The cars can be fixed, and the drivers are uninjured.  The nostalgia you can taste was worth it.  Nice to see them running and not gathering dust.

Pedantry warning. If you don’t care about words, skip this comment.

Your overall point is completely valid, but for this car specifically I think the appreciation is genuine. It’s a desirable enthusiast car in a nice spec, and good ones just aren’t that common anymore.

So conflicted.

This is where I am sitting. Would I buy it and own it? hahahah no. I do not have the luck to be able to live with that machine. But is it a good price for it? If it is as meticulously cared for and is in as good a shape as it looks. yes that is a nice price for it.

Having been an Audi owner, spanning 12 years, I know the benefit of better-than-regular maintenance. It’s not so much the engine and drivetrain that is the issue on a well maintained Audi. It’s literally every single other component.

160k is a lotta miles, but damn that’s a good lookin’ car.

Douches need canoes. This is one of the ultimate douche canoes.

Unless that car is literally made of solid gold and autographed by Jesus himself, it will never be worth it.

10 years later: “Shit, that didn’t quite work. Let’s try plan B and over style every last surface, so our vehicles look like some Asian economy brand.”

thank you.  i hate the x6

Why exactly would I put up with a hybrid system from a company not exactly known for reliability, just to still get only 18 mpg? What does the regular one get, 14-15? Big whoop.

While many BMW buyers still like sports sedans, others want an SUV. We created the X6 to piss them all off. — a design pitch that somehow lead to a production vehicle.

fuck. other wives say this, too?

I’m a bit of masochist, and so I had three of those. I experienced various problems, as one would expect. And twice blew timing belt, which causes very expensive damages. I ended resorting to replacing timing belt/tensioner every 20k miles, which sounds ridiculous, but it was a cheap insurance. It’s a mighty

Alfa enthusiasts are a dedicated if rather masochistic lot. A good friend of mine found what he described as “a steal”, a low miler, 3 year old (at the time) 159 with the 3.2l V6. Sounded cool, drove really well but was falling apart continuously. All the interior trim rattled loose, the door handles often didn’t work

I love everything about this. First off, it’s nice to have the same money go to a ton of skilled engineers and technicians rather than just changing hands. It’s employing people. Plus, instead of trading stock, it's actually increasing the stock of these cars that are available. Kudos to this guy.
