The reason why these heritage vegetables are gaining popularity is because the chefs on The Great British Menu and Master Chef: The Professionals use them all the time. They're trying to be different but because they all use them it's actually become repetitive.

I just read Angela Carter’s The Bloody Chamber, which is an anthology of fairy tales that some she re-imagined and others are new stories. The title story is obviously a Bluebeard story. Every story is beautifully written and, most, of the main female characters are strong, powerful women. I highly recommend this book.
