Don’t think GM (or their suppliers) made anything over 4 speeds that would work in this application; especially considering the torque.

GM didn’t put a “more speed” automatic in their trucks until 2008. The good news is the old 4 speed is mostly reliable, and rebuilds are cheap, sub $1000 for a quality one.

I got here early, so maybe this will turn around - but I’m going with NP, and placing it against say, a new Versa or Fit. For $15,000, you can get something much less reliable, but much more rewarding.
