There's no way to fix the suck. Sonic died shortly after Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I choose to believe every Sonic game thereafter was just the money grubbing ploys of evil men, in the same way that I do not acknowledge the canonicity of the Star Wars prequels or the fourth Indiana Jones.
