Who, precisely, does Justin Theroux have to fuck for The Leftovers to get some recognition?
Hey there compadre. I packed up all my reviews and moved them over to the Solute; hope you don't mind that I copied this brutally owning comment into here.
Agreed on everything except point three. Also, an 80s-defining score by the Chungsters.
Me pretty sure me speak for all of us when me take pride in you, Cookie. Me said of end with Former Mrs. Wallflower—"me not do right thing, me did least wrong thing." It admirable that you recognize situation and take least awful path. Me sure strong authormonster like yourself find happiness, even if path…
'Twas ever thus.
Will this lead to a reassessment as to the value of 1) actual directors in charge of action movies, and 2) the value of woman-centered movies? All signs point to "no."
Die Hard, overscaled but so perfectly constructed so it starts in the ordinary and builds to the earth-shattering kabooms, with all sorts of emotional beats, ownage, and just insane humor ("No, the other one") along the way.
Lost had five great seasons (2, 4, and 5 are among television's best) and I forgive them for not sticking the landing. 6 had a few good ideas and didn't work them out into a good story; it wound up relying entirely on the performers to carry it.
ZESE CLOCKS!
Three hours of movie makes for one hour of podcast. This seems right.
Clearly they're gonna ban all the good accounts so when the Kinjapocalypse hits, they can claim nothing was lost.
Newbies always welcome (speaking from experience on this). Other AV Club spinoffs include The Avocado: https://disqus.com/home/cha… and The Solute: http://www.the-solute.com/ (a spinoff of a spinoff).
The most encouraging thing I've heard about it. (Not that I thought it would have been bad.)
At some point, Alison Bechdel is gonna just go full Shatner on everybody: ". . . and after all these years, I just want to say: get a life. You've turned what was a one-off joke in a comic strip into a colossal obsession."
Sofia Coppola's inability to give two shits about public opinion continues to be what makes her so goddamn great.
My contribution to @disqus_7AOfmTpErb:disqus's Summer of Soderbergh now available.
Except for a few essays that will be published on Thursdays over the summer, my complete Shield reviews are now at The Solute. I'm ready for the Kinjapocalypse.
