Also, the-solute.com is still going strong and we've picked up a few Avocado/AVC commenters as writers now. I think you've been there occasionally but we haven't seen you for a while.
I'm over at the Solute and not hard to find.
Stop bragging about your Saturday, @avclub-9ff7c9eb9d37f434db778f59178012da:disqus.
But I know we'll meet again, some. . .sunny. . .DAYYYYYYYY!

JACUZZI SPLOT!
Last week, I listened to Secret Geometry, an Aleck Karis recital of piano/electronics. Very diverse, from the aggressive old-school modernist stuff of Mario Davidovsky's "Synchronisms" to Joji Yuasa's more ambient work. Worth listening to.
The first season is wildly uneven, like a lot of first seasons. The creators were still figuring out what they wanted to do and there's a lot of stuff that they never do again. My standard advice: watch the first season (recognizing that it's not all good) and if you still like it, keep watching, 'cuz it gets…
Eh, if you're not into it by now (I assume you saw the first season), bail. (Some people said they didn't get into it until season three, but I think if you're not on board by the beginning of season two, you won't be.) No worries.
Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I've often thought that if The Sopranos was the length of Arrested Development (first three seasons only), it would have worked a lot better for me. Static characters work best the less time we spend with them, like with short stories. There seems to be some point (it varies for…

😢 they grow up so fast. . .
The second paragraph is exactly my problem with it. Nolan paces The Dark Knight magnificently—it's a constant crescendo that works because he knows when to slow down and build (the double chase to save Rachel and Dent is a good example). The Dark Knight Rises is trying to do so much that pacing had to be sacrificed…

If you haven't done so, The Leftovers is worth it, not the least for the way Lindelof specifically tackles the problems of that final season and addresses them.
I'm so sorry.
Oh no, I created the thing I was trying to prevent! DAMN YOU TIME TRAVEL PARADOXES!
I come from the distant future to thank you for this; I've never forgotten it and I finally got to use it properly. Also, a warning: you must stop Donald Trump before it's too late. Conventional weapons will have no effect. (If I told you what's going to happen, you'd be laughing too hard to do anything.)
DeRogatis has been on this story since the 90s. Motherfucker does not give up; he reminds us of what journalism can really be.
