For me it's more the wow, Sandler is getting older, but his love interests are staying the same age (approximately). I wouldn't say "uncommonly" age-appropriate to describe 7-10 years. Maybe typical, although that's a sad comment unto itself.

I did feel, when I finally watched it, that its heart was basically in the right place. One detail I love is that Sandler's character, who is the more outwardly macho/lady-obsessed guy, is (a.) way more into the fake gay marriage and (b.) totally accepting of Kevin James' young son, who is clearly gay. Ultimately, the…
I know you're joking but she's in Grown Ups 2.
You're thinking of Dirty Work. He plays a hallucinated Satan in that. "WE EAT THE PIG AND THEN TOGETHER WE BURN!"
Again with "they."
That doesn't make any sense on a number of levels.
It's true in general, but I'm not as stuck on that idea as some others. Apatow's movies are generally fine with me (maybe This is 40 goes on a bit, but I think that could have felt long at any length). Superbad is two hours and it's one of my favorite comedies. I don't even mind when McKay goes off-reservation and…
Although it should be said that Allen and Sandler, while obviously in different, ah, worlds, talent-wise, have a pretty similar tendency to go longer when their movies get lazier. They've both made some of their longest movies out of some of their thinnest, weakest material. (Remember how Woody's early aughts comedies…
Weirder still: LORNE IS IN THIS MOVIE TOO
I never stopped watching them because I'm an idiot, but the first one I skipped in theaters and didn't catch up with until this project:
I like the use of "they," like this review was written via intense committee discussion.
True! And I would have thought Sandler's SNL crew was a major reason she had such a bad time on the show, so I'm impressed that she turned up here. There's almost no one who used to be on SNL, even if it wasn't during his tenure, who he won't hire. Makes it especially strange that he's never hosted.
I don't think I'm treating it as on par. Just something that happened the same year.
To the movie's credit (or maybe the real-life lady's credit? I don't know), his wife never asks him to give up on his dreams.
Just popping in to say Hell Yeah, Brooklyn Magazine.
I have an affection for Arterton that I've long though at least semi-irrational, so I'm pleased to discover that apparently she's developing an acclaimed stage career over in the U.K?!? Good for her. I really ought to check out The Girl With All The Gifts.
Strawberry Fields forever!
It is a classic American R, which is to say it is tamer than 80% of PG-13 movies, but does say "fuck" a few times, so there you go. The "scene of sexuality" might have some veiled nudity, but it's extremely brief (and even there, I think we've seen more in some PG-13 movies). I appreciated, though, that the movie…
It's not a total slog/downer, though. There's a snap to it as it wraps up even as it's going after some more serious moments.
