You're right, and probably you can find examples of the type even before 2004. I just think of Dunst as the first one to get that distinction because it was in the Rabin piece about that movie.
I can promise you at least one review of LEAP! after the changeover.
Yeah, I'm actually not super into Fargo: The Show (though I've watched all three seasons), and especially found the second season overpraised, but I thought Dunst was possibly the best thing about it (and Mary Elizabeth Winstead was similarly the best thing in S3 in a similarly nuanced and sometimes surprising…
I feel like Rabin's Rotten Tomatoes column Sub-Cult gets at that — it's like the second or third tier of cult movies, sort of like an Advanced Studies version of New Cult Canon. Characteristically good stuff.
I will say, Williams got the single biggest laugh from me in The Baxter (and — for me, at least — this was a HUGE laugh in an amusing/cute movie), and it's a moment of physical comedy. And she is funny in Dick, just in a more sweetly sincere way. So I think she might be capable of comedy. She just might not be what…
This makes me like Foster even more!
"Down here we call it Pocket Full of Ass."
She's so good in those Spider-Man movies! There's a melancholy and nuance to MJ that I think goes underappreciated.
Hahahaha I LOVE that you were standing up for Get Over It at a Foster Q&A, that rules!
Worth noting, though, that Ben Foster is ASTONISHINGLY miscast as the likable teen hero. He's this seething cauldron of rage, and not in a way that seems written or directed into the movie. It actually makes it more interesting in some ways, but it's a pretty bizarre performance.
I was surprised, years later, to find out there's a cult behind it because it seemed at the time like a failed cult movie, like Jawbreaker (which apparently also found its cult? Of people who haven't seen Heathers, I guess).
Does what now?
Not as far as I know, though it's definitely an occasional thing for the moment, rather than a mostly-monthly. I just don't know what to tease (though I have lots of ideas) (I refer to one above but I realize I actually have two that might be good candidates for the next one).
Thanks! I'm sad to deprive you of guessing opportunities with the teaser. I know what I want to do for my next one but I don't know if that's what it will be or when it would run if it is.
AW THANKS! <3
Sad that Watch This was phased out because there were two movies I had on my perpetual "can I work this into a Watch This theme?!" list: Bunny Lake Is Missing and Get Over It.
Snatch is vastly funnier and it's easier to tell the guys apart so in this case it would be more like Left Twix that's still delicious and fresh in the package versus Right Twix that's been sitting on the counter for a day or so.
May not be getting the full context but I definitely saw someone RT'd into my feed talking about how Fey asking if "Hillary's emails" drove a car into a crowd of people was "vile" and she should "never be given a platform"… and if I was reading it and a follow-up tweet correctly, the problem this person had was……
I'm not upset, no. I just sometimes question our ability to unite and focus on winning important battles. Obviously it would be better if right-wingers were more willing to self-examine, too.
