That depends on the board games you were buying. Stuff like Monopoly, Life, etc. were always inexpensive and still are. Things like Squad Leader, Titan, etc were always expensive and still are.
Games aimed at big family and kid audiences = inexpensive
Games aimed at niche and adult audiences = expensive.
