This was probably the most solid of the episodes in that nothing fell completely flat, but it also didn't make me laugh very much. Seems right up Dennis's comedic alley, though.

"Haunted was written by Chad Hayes & Carey Hayes (The Conjuring), which speaks well for it."
They made a memorial statue the same way we make them for tragedies like 9/11. It was never implied that anymore than a handful of people thought they were "holy and pure and chosen."
"And I thought from last season that most people believed that The Departed were somehow holy and pure and chosen."
I hope they jettison all of the supernatural stuff (any kind of ghosts/people who aren't really there, the dad who was insane but maybe not) and just show us a world affected by an insane, unknowable event. Also, more cult stuff.
That was a joke about a song Cher sings.
It's sort of crazy to me how many of these episodes are proclaimed to be complete duds in these classic reviews and in the comments. It feels like only about half are actually beloved. I understand that the central conceit of "Bend Her" is built upon tired stereotypes, but I think there's enough humor and absurdity in…
From this response, I still don't think you understand the joke the Simpsons was going for. They are supposed to be good teams. The people of Springfield are not supposed to care about soccer at all, and no way would Portugal even crack the top ten in an impartial or partial survey of the greatest country in the world.
The joke wouldn't work with Finland vs South Korea. The point is that it "decides" who is the world's greatest nation. The joke only makes sense if the countries are good at soccer, but not really anywhere near the top of the world's power structure. They picked the right countries.
Having a Mexican housekeeper is a "wince-inducing stereotype"? You should probably visit Southern California. It would be white-washing if she weren't Mexican. On top of that, Rosa is presented as a well-respected character with her own personality and opinions.
Yeah, changing it to a random farmboy is definitely a non-sensical choice.
You would have to really rush the ending for a 90 minute film.
These reviews are really just a flimsy pretext for us to type out Futurama quotes. Try not to read them.
What does "imminently" mean in the sentence "She even managed to turn in a compelling performance in the imminently mediocre Avatar."
Who kisses in the first one?
Remember like the hottie that was the receptionist in the original Ghostbusters?
I think she died?
I totally agree. I think this season has been on fire and I've been shocked at every single grade this reviewer has given the episodes. I thought this was pretty bad (aside from a few good lines, this was the least I laughed all season), and of course the reviewer gives it an A.
God, you are condescending. awesome!
I love how later she calls the president a bitch.
