How would that make those scenes pointless? Tyrion still underwent a character arc by overcoming the family ties that had defined him. Just because he suddenly learns that someone else was his father doesn't undo all of that growth.

I read his Hollywood Reporter interview you linked below and it just came across as a guy being earnest. To be honest, it was a much more illuminating and interesting read than most celebrity interviews.

Thursday: Took a bunch of mushrooms and went to go see Spider-Man. Maybe not my best idea ever. The movie was fun, but the editing was a little too hectic to follow in my state. And also the grown-ass couple next to me spent literally the entire film making out and groping each other. Strange times.
